Who is Cláudia for? Adults (18+) who speak Portuguese, mostly in Brazil, and want to practice speaking English, Spanish, French, Italian or German.

Not for: people who don't read Portuguese (the app interface is in Portuguese), people who want to learn Portuguese, and people who need a certificate.

The facts about Duolingo were checked on Duolingo’s official App Store page (United States), on its official website and on its official blog on October 20, 2026. Links are under “Sources”. If something has changed, the official page is right and this page is wrong.

Where Duolingo is stronger

Where Cláudia is stronger

Can I use both?

Yes, and they fit together: Duolingo for vocabulary and routine, Cláudia for putting it all into speech, talking out loud with correction. It is common to study a language for years and freeze when it is time to speak; that is the part Cláudia works on.

Questions about this

Is there a Duolingo alternative for speaking practice?

Yes: voice conversation apps, where you speak and get corrected right away. Cláudia is one of them, made in Brazil for Portuguese speakers, with the option of explanations in Portuguese during the conversation. There are also free options, such as ChatGPT voice mode.

Is Duolingo Max worth it for conversation?

It depends on what you want. According to Duolingo’s blog, Video Call with Lily is part of Max. If voice conversation is what you most want to practice, compare the price of Max in your app store with that of an app built for conversation.

Is Cláudia free like Duolingo?

Partly. On Cláudia you can create an account and practice by text without paying, but voice and the daily lesson are part of the paid plans.

Does Cláudia replace Duolingo?

It doesn’t have to. They do different things: Duolingo is strong on habit and vocabulary, Cláudia on spoken conversation. You can use both.

Want to try it?

The sign-up is a short quiz in Portuguese where you say how far along you are in the language. Then you open the conversation and start talking with Cláudia.
